EPIC files FTC complaint against Acxiom and JetBlue
In 2003, the Electronic Privacy Information Center, Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, and PrivacyActivism filed complaints with the US Federal Trade Commission alleging that JetBlue Airways and Acxiom engaged in deceptive trade practices by supplying personal information about consumers to the Alabama-based information mining company Torch Concepts without the knowledge or consent of those consumers. EPIC argued that the FTC should investigate and enjoin these activities, which it believed were in violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act, and require Acxiom and JetBlue to notify the affected customers. The FTC took no action.
