The State of Privacy was a study of privacy and surveillance issues in countries across the world. This was a collaborative initiative between PI and its partners to produce briefings on 19 countries.
Each country report is based on a survey of questions on key areas of privacy, updated from open-source materials, as well as the research and investigation conducted by PI and our partners. The areas covered by the country briefings are:
Domestic and international legal frameworks;
Surveillance laws, agencies, and their oversight;
Data protection laws, accountability mechanisms, and examples of breaches;
Identity systems, including ID cards and voter registration; and
Examples of data-intensive systems in a variety of sectoral and thematic areas.
